Working in hand is the ultimate way to refine movements. That is therefore the goal of working in hand. During work in hand you use both inside and outside rein, just like during riding.

Therefore, work in hand is ideal for horses who need to get used to the bit and learn the aids given with the bit. During work in hand the horse learns both the direct and indirect rein aids.

Benefits of work in hand:

• Teaching your horse to trust the bit
• Getting a better feeling for the inside and outside reins
• You get a better view of the way the bit and cavesson work from the ground

During work in hand you walk next to your horse and work with the reins. Your inside hand leads her, following the circle. Your outsidehand holds the outside rein and gives it enough room to hang loose, so that the horese can bend their body properly.
